805 pour house focuses on drinks, food and love

It’s not quite déjà vu, but the surroundings do look familiar in the new 805 Pour House on East Ventura Boulevard in Old Town Camarillo. Baked avocado and egg Most recently the spot was Bella on the Blvd., one of several beverage and food ventures over recent years.

Now as 805, it’s still a small but cozy site, touting, in slightly tongue-in-cheek style, it’s focus on “wine, beer, food, love.” That might not be exactly the order of it all, but new owners Daniel and Jennifer Bowen have stocked the welcoming space with wines by the glass and bottle and craft beers.

We were introduced to that aspect of 805 when our server, John, brought a gleaming Emmy to our table so that we could see the award up close and briefly. Avocado with egg recipes The golden figure rising from its base in triumphant pose was indeed impressive, and so heavy that it’s a wonder presenters and recipients can handle them. Citrus Crab Toast ($8) was a perfect light tapas choice to start our lunch, with its happy blend of lump crab meat with lemon zest, capers, red chili flakes and garlic aioli presented on strips of toasted sourdough. Our entrées also were taste bud pleasers. Avocado and egg pizza recipe A spinaci pizza ($12) in a traditional free-form oval shape was a delicious combination of spinach, mushrooms, feta and fresh mozzarella cheeses, roasted garlic and olive and truffle oil, with a caramelized onion kick.

Sandwich-wise, who could resist a Killer Kobe beef burger ($15)? It brought together a moist and flavorful patty with blue cheese, smoked bacon, tomato and garlic aioli, again served on toasted sourdough. Naturally there were lots of menu items we still would like to sample, including tapas of baked Brie with red berry compote, beef carpaccio, salmon cakes and a seared skirt steak with chimichurri sauce. Naturally the spot wouldn’t be called Pour House if there wasn’t a good variety of well-selected wines and a raft of beers, the latter hailing from Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Paso Robles, Anderson Valley, Salt Lake City, Germany, Belgium and elsewhere. Egg and avocado recipes From the wine list we chose pleasant glasses of Waterbrook merlot from the Columbia Valley, and Bokisch albarino, a white wine from Lodi in the style of its native Galicia, Spain.

There’s even something for the kids, with favorites like cheese pizza, grilled cheese sandwich, a Groovy Burger and your basic peanut butter and jelly, each $6, plus sodas, lemonade and chocolate milk to order with them.
