Restaurants, bars and bakeries are rolling out the pumpkin

It cannot be fall without pumpkin, and Pittsburgh restaurants, bars, bakeries and cafes are ready to entice us with a kaleidoscope of confections.

• Eat’n Park (various locations) offers an abundance of pumpkin items through Dec. • If only a martini will quench your thirst, stop by Olive or Twist (140 Sixth St., Downtown) for a Pumpkin Pie Martini ($10) made with fresh pumpkin puree, or a Pumpkin Spice Martini, also $10.

• The Porch at Schenley (221 Schenley Dr., Oakland) will whip up a Pumpkin White Russian cocktail ($8) made with Kahlua, cream and pumpkin spice, and presented with a cinnamon sugar rim. Rose sauce for pasta recipe From Oct. Tomato pasta sauce with bacon 20, it will feature a Roasted Pumpkin Risotto ($14) with grilled shrimp, roasted pumpkin, leeks and spiced pistachio oil.

• From October, the fall dinner menu at Senti (3473 Butler St., Lawrenceville) will feature a butternut squash gnocchi served with the sauce of the day for $20.

• Through Jan. Sauce for pasta and meatballs 1, Girasole (733 Copeland St., Shadyside) is offering pumpkin ravioli ($18), which is made with pumpkin and butternut squash with crumbled amaretti cookies in a brown butter sauce with pancetta, walnuts and sage. Homemade red sauce for pasta Available for lunch and dinner, it’s served with a small house salad.

• From October through Thanksgiving, Braddock’s American Brasserie (107 Sixth St., Downtown) will be offering pumpkin pierogies tossed in sugar, and served with creme fraiche and duck confit for $13.95, and an entree of pumpkin risotto with poached egg, toasted pumpkin seeds and asparagus for $24.

• Starting Oct. Homemade pasta sauces from scratch 20, the pumpkin selections at Six Penn Kitchen (146 Sixth St., Downtown) will include a seared duck breast ($35) and roasted root vegetables over pumpkin-filled tortellini in a sage goat cheese cream.

• Pumpkin gets a curry treatment at Nicky’s Thai Kitchen (903 Penn Ave., Downtown and 856 Western Ave., North Side). Homemade spaghetti sauce made from scratch The pumpkin curry ($8.95 for lunch and $13.50 for dinner) made with steamed pumpkin, coconut milk and red curry paste is available all year-long. • Starting in late November, the winter dinner menu at Habitat Restaurant (510 Market St., Downtown) will list a Salted Caramel Pumpkin Soup with spiced cream and caramel crumble for $10. • For a pumpkin vegan tasting, head to Fortuitea Cafe & Bakery (The Shoppes at Quail Acres, 1445 Washington Road, Washington, Pa.): pumpkin mac ‘n’ cheese ($12.95 per bowl) in cashew cheese sauce seasoned with a mix of fall and Southwest seasoning, caramelized onions and garnished with an apple relish and pepitas; pumpkin-chipotle hummus wrap ($8.49), a tortilla filled with pumpkin chipotle hummus, spinach, tomatoes, caramelized onions, almond-feta cheese, pepitas and dried cranberries; pumpkin soup ($5.99 per bowl) with vegan stock, coconut milk and pumpkin; pumpkin cheesecake ($8.49); and pumpkin oatmeal-raisin and cranberry cookies ($1.99 per piece).

• Starting Oct. Making a sauce for pasta 1 and through November, Eggs N’at (8556 University Blvd., Moon) will feature pumpkin pancakes on the menu (3 pancakes for $5.75; 2 for $4; 1 for $1.25).

• At Dor-Stop Restaurant (1430 Potomac Ave., Dormont) you don’t have to wait for fall to indulge in a plate of pumpkin pancakes; you can order the Pumpkin Hot Cakes ($6.59) all year-round.

• Starting next week and all through Thanksgiving, The Bagel Factory (various locations) stores will serve Pumpkin Spice Bagels for $10.99 a dozen, coffeecake-style Pumpkin Sweet Breads for $6 per loaf, jumbo size pumpkin muffins for $2.50 a piece, pumpkin cookies for $2 a piece and pumpkin cream cheese for $3.99 for half a pound.

• Everything from Pumpkin Drop Cookies ($2.75 for 6), Pumpkin Praline Tortes ($15.95) and pumpkin pies ($7.95 for an 8-inch; $12.95 for a 10-inch), to pumpkin rolls ($9.35), pumpkin breads ($6.50) and Pumpkin Spice Mini Cupcakes ($6.45 for 12) is available at Bethel Bakery (5200 Brightwood Road, Bethel Park).

• At Gigi’s Cupcakes (761 Providence Blvd., McCandless) you’ll find Pumpkin Spice Latte Cupcakes in regular and gluten-free varieties. • Local chocolate maker Sinful Sweets (901 Penn Ave., Downtown) features Pumpkin Pie Truffles ($1.65 per piece), Pumpkin Fudge bars ($3.49), and Pumpkin Cupcakes ($2.99), which are filled with caramel and topped with a maple cream cheese icing, caramel drizzle and pumpkin pie seasoning.
